Rapid Prototype

Detroit Tool Metal Products provides prototyping services to assist ongoing customers in development of new fabricated products. This service is a recent addition to DTMP’s product offering – the Prototype department is now three years old. With a staff of experienced "jack of all trade" fabricators, the Prototype Department has responsibility for customer prototype development, and for process proofing on new fabricated items entering the Metal Products facility. Quick turn-around to the customer is a major part of this group’s mission.

Beginning with part drawings, the Prototype Department works to fabricate the item, validate print dimensions, develop the initial process, and provide sample parts, all - in short order. This includes defining processing specifications, along with specs for tooling, and measuring devices. The following dedicated machines are at the disposal of the Prototype Department: Laser, Turret, Press Brake, Welder, (2) Coordinate Measuring Devices. Powder and Liquid Painting capability are also available, along with punch presses from 60 ton to 1600 ton for die try-out. Firms with a need for initial prototypes, choose to become ongoing DTMP customers, because new part development is part of the package.
