Design for Manufacturing

DTMP provides a dedicated pre-production team to assist customers in developing newly fabricated products. The pre-production team is a cross-functional group that contains experienced mechanical and industrial engineers, black belt specialists, pre-production (launch) personnel. They are responsible for handling the design process and planning for items entering the Detroit Tool Metal Products facility. A safe, robust, efficient, quality and error proofed design is the primary objective to meet and exceed the customers’ expectations.

Product Development

Beginning with customer drawings, the Pre-Production Team / Launch Department accomplishes the following:

Develop the initial production plans
Validate that dimesional requirements are met
Manufacture the product
Provide sample parts and concepts
Formulate a full-scale manufacturing process
Execute the process with velocity

APQP Process

DTMP invokes a rigorous process to validate the production design at the very onset. This is to ensure the robustness and repeatability of the design. This is accomplished by using the following APQP elements:
