Weld Engineer

We are proud to announce that we have an opening for a Weld Engeineer.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:

Develops welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and engineering principles.

SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct the welder qualification program
  • Create and maintain PQR/WPS requirements per AWS and customer specifications
  • Lead cost improvement and product improvement initiatives in the weld shop
  • Provide interpretation and direction for the weld shop for welding standards, customer standards and specifications, and internal standards and procedures
  • Develop and maintain weld shop training procedures including, but not limited to, new hire weld tests and ongoing yearly reviews
  • Manage the CWI’s and ensure interpretations and direction is followed consistently from person to person
  • Work on developing more CWI’s within the welding department and enhance their training to include UT inspection and other customer requested training.
  • Participate in feasibility and process development projects for new business awards
  • Work with the production supervisors and scheduling to ensure that development does not interfere with production schedules
  • Work with consumable suppliers to ensure they meet our quality standards and production needs as well as support improvement initiatives
  • Be the main customer interface for welding discussions in customer visits and meetings
  • Any other needs that may arise

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION: preferred

  • Specific experience:  5 years minimum experience (preferably in heavy plate steel),
    Formal education:   B.S. Welding Engineering or Welding Engineering Technology
    Certifications:  CWI/SCWI Certification
    Skills:  Hands on welding skills preferred, Knowledgeable in AWS Codes and filler metal specifications, Robotic programming background (preferably Panasonic), Expertise in high deposition GMAW and FCAW processes

Physical requirements of the Job:

Office work setting
Mobility to move about manufacturing facility to inspect operations
Dexterity to input data on computer keyboard
Communication skills to use telephone to communicate with customers and co-workers
Tolerance for noisy, hot manufacturing environment that may include some aerosol mists from washing/painting and welding activities, and cooling/cutting fluids from machinery operations.
