Buyer

Employees of DTMP are bringing world class metal products to a very competitive market with great success leading the company to grow and gain in customer loyalty.  To join this team the ideal applicant must have a history of excellence at work, high level of vendor and customer satisfaction, effective problem solving and teamwork.  We are in the process of building a Center of Engineering Excellence and have openings for a Buyer as we grow to meet our customer’s demands.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Purchase and expedite raw materials technical items, and outside services needed to continue uninterrupted daily manufacturing and meet customer standards for quality, service, and delivery.

specific job RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Determine inventory requirements for raw materials to purchase to meet needs detailed on production work orders.
  2. Negotiate and purchase assigned metal raw materials, figuring material requirements of size, grade, quantity, and delivery.
  3. Obtain Certificates of Conformance from vendors of all raw materials, enter lot numbers into computer inventory and maintain certification program for materials/services purchased.
  4. Solicit quotes from multiple vendors for materials requested.  Compare price, quality, and delivery dates of quoted items.  Select vendor and place orders for supply items.
  5.  Expedite raw material purchases for tight deliveries or supplier delays.
  6. Consult with vendors, supply catalogs, and other references to identify suppliers and prices for needed items.
  7. Identify sources, place orders, and supervise transfer of materials for outsource services.
  8. Interpret purchase requisitions from maintenance staff to identify equipment and parts necessary to repair or maintain production machinery, HVAC systems, and buildings/facilities and identify their related specifications, and quantities to order.
  9. Review invoices, match purchase order with receiver, resolve discrepancies, and authorize payment for items that do not match original purchase order information.
  10. Enter data from purchase orders into computer system.
  11. Assist with physical inventory as required
  12. Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical knowledge of metals materials
  • Experience in purchasing techniques and expediting
  • Industrial mathematics competency
  • Familiarity with technical maintenance items and specifications
  • Detail, accurate work orientation
  • Communication skills sufficient to interact with vendors and production staff
  • High School Graduate.

Physical requirements:

    1. Mobility to move about shop to identify purchased items and their specifications.
    2. Dexterity to rapidly enter data using 10 key and CRT keyboard.
    3. Visual acuity to see objects on computer screen.
    4. Speech and hearing capacity appropriate for frequent person to person and phone based conversations and meetings
